A little History (2)

Our house is a two story wood frame house, with an apartment upstairs, a main floor, and a basement below. The records are a little vague, but it looks like it was built around 1915, and almost every house on our block was built before 1924.

To take a look at what the house was like when we first saw it, check out the complete photo album: click here

Our neighborhood is a section of Brooklyn that real estate agents are calling Greenwood Heights, which really means that it is a part of Sunset Park that is close enough to Park Slope to merit its own cool name in an attempt to attract development.

A little history...

We first looked at our house on a cold grey day in February. We met there with our realtor and the owner of the house, Mrs. Peters. Say Hi to Mrs. Peters:

Mrs Peters spends most of her day making Marinara sauce, which we have yet to sample.

As you can see, there was a strong early 70's vibe to the house when we walked in which is due to the fact that, well, the house hadn't been redecorated since the early 70's! And I don't mean the 70's of Disco either. The walls were a combination of yellowed wallpaper and thin faux wood paneling, with grimy tiled floors, a drop ceiling, and florescent lights. Check it out:

Yet despite all that, we still sensed a hidden, wonderful character to the place. Little did we know the path it would lead us on!
